hi <3
I’m Ananya. My name means “unique,” which feels like both a blessing and a quiet responsibility.
I grew up in Zimbabwe, where life felt beautiful and the sun showed up every day. Most of my childhood happened outside. At home, we weren’t allowed to say the word “boring.” So we learned to make things. Games. Stories. Chaos. Magic.
I think that’s why I still feel most like myself when I’m creating.
I’ve been singing and writing since I was six. I didn’t decide to love music, it just kind of claimed me. It was the place I put everything I didn’t know how to say out loud.
After high school, I moved to New York on a Dean’s Scholarship to study fashion design at Parsons. New York toughened me up in the best way. It taught me how to move fast, adapt faster, and not romanticise setbacks.
During the pandemic, my friend Tony and I started The Nani Wellness Project after bonding over our own mental health journeys. Now, Nani provides free virtual therapy to Zimbabweans. That matters to me more than streams ever will. Mental health isn’t a side note in my life. It’s the reason a lot of my songs exist.
My debut EP 'i woke up one night' somehow found its way to over a million streams. I write about self worth, letting go, the messy in between. Growth that hurts. Strength that whispers.
Now I live in London. Younger me would be confused and impressed. After finishing my master’s at Condé Nast College, I stopped treating music like a side love and let it be the main thing.
I’m beyond grateful to be a creative and to be exactly where I am. But as always, I’m looking ahead. Still growing, still building, and always learning.
Anyway, I’ve gotta go walk Satchmo!
